Back to Work!

I'm back! I started a new job about 4 months ago, which is why posts stopped around then. I needed time away to dedicate myself fully to my job, but now I'm feeling a little more comfortable and am ready to get back into my solo projects.

Shopping!

I conceded and added a shop phase to the game. It is a no longer a "pre-build a complete deck" kind of game, it's a press play and build the deck as you play kind of game. It is now truly just slay the spire x hearthstone battlegrounds, which is a little less exciting but probably a lot more fun and definitely a lot easier to grasp. Obviously the UI needs work (all the visuals need work) but for now I'm just going to focus on gameplay.

I think my goal for this kind of game would be to have you pitted against a single enemy who you have to defeat, and defeating this enemy would unlock new ones and also unlock new cards to appear in the shop. A but of metaprogression, if you will. I don't really like metaprogression in games, but I think it would be beneficial here to reduce the amount of frontloaded information and make the game a little easier at the beginning.

I'll need to also do quite a bit of work on the enemy AI to make them a little bit more interesting as opponents. Currently the AI knows how to play cards, but doesn't know how to make decisions about the order of their cards, or anything like that. With some work, I think this could be a really compelling game!

I recorded a video demoing some of the stuff in this current build. It went pretty long, so I'll be uploading that at a later date. The game is kind of just a sandbox right now, since the AI is very easy and I can give it infinite health. So you kind of just get to draft whatever cards you want and experiment with cool combos. It's a fun time and I show that off in depth in the video. Look forward to that soon!
